Another Day In Paradise . . .

Being surrounded by such amazing sights can cause one to take for granted, that they live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Alaska is still so untouched and it offers so many great opportunities to just take in the incredible nature that surrounds us.

I headed out yesterday for a morning of photography and was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the temperature was a balmy 60 degrees. I headed over to the Mendenhall Glacier and spent about 30 or 40 minutes just grabbing some quick shots there. When I finished, I headed down to the Mendenhall River and was hoping to get some shots of the river flowing through the ice. Upon arriving, I saw 8 or 9 Bald Eagles feeding on a young deer carcass and was able to get a bunch of pictures without disturbing them. The eagles were content with their meal and were comfortable with my position on the bridge above them.

In all, it was a great day filled with some photography, driving around town with Erin and Noah and capped off with a family swim night at the community pool. Does it get any better?

We all get busy with work, family and just day to day responsibilities but, don't forget to stop long enough to think of family, laugh about old times or to plan something fun or relaxing for the weekend. Do something thoughtful for your significant other or just tell them why you love them.

We were sitting in our house cooking dinner when we decided to pack it all up and head out for a spur of the moment picnic. We didn't know where we were heading but, we had our food, cameras, the dog and an energetic 3 year old. We found our spot and were able to get some nice pictures after eating. The first picture was taken at the spot that we found and eventually wound up eating at. I love those spur of the moment trips to take pictures, picnic, shop for toys with Noah but, I also love hanging out at home with the family. I guess I have found my balance and I am happy to have what I have and to be where we are. Life is good . . .

I have always loved photography but, never pursued it beyond high school electives. I love getting in the Tahoe and heading out with my camera. The idea that you really don't know what you will wind up with or what you will experience while out shooting. It's always a great stress relief and I hope to learn more as I go along. So far trying to understand the different aspects and options available has been a little confusing but, it's still a lot of fun.

The pictures above were taken here in Juneau a couple days back. The sunset was amazing and it was just another quiet day here in Alaska. The 5 pictures above were all taken out the road here in Juneau and include Lupine at Eagle Beach, the Chilkoot snow capped mountain range, and an eagle at Sunshine cove.

Life is a journey, a series of paths chosen, hurdles overcome, some peaks and valleys but, ultimately we all share the drive and desire to be happy. As a family we have moved from Long Beach to Ventura and then Tehachapi, California. Tehachapi offered us the opportunity to be close to our family, to share holidays, talks, dinners and to have their support in our day to day lives. It was this presence that made the decision to move to Juneau even tougher. We would be leaving behind a great, wonderful group of family members who mean the world to us.

We had a hard time breaking the news to them, letting them know that we would be moving nearly 3,000 miles away. Upon sharing the news with them, we were overwhelmed by the support. They just wanted to see us happy and knew that we needed to do whatever was best for us. They supported our move and helped us with everything in preparing for our departure.

I want our family to know how much we miss them, how much we love them and how often little Noah talks about each and every one of them. He talks about his Auntie weeah, Umcle Ed, Hamma, Rachel, Ammy Jo and Pappa Dave. We may have a little distance between us and the people that we care so much about but, we think of them often and we will be making regular trips back to see them down in California... Ed, Leah, Rachel, Hannah, Jo and Dave, we miss you and will see you soon.
